Bottom Line: Can the Lions run it back next year?

  1. The Detroit Lions were simply not as good as their record. The San Francisco 49ers clobbered the Lions in the second half. The Lions remain the only original NFL franchise that has never been to the Super Bowl. The three other teams that have never been to the SB are all expansion franchises–Houston, Jacksonville and the Cleveland Browns (1999 edition). The Detroit Lions will take several steps backward next season, as the Green Bay Packers surpass them. The Lions will go back to being a middling team, where players trip over their own feet and each other.
