Lions TE Brock Wright Fined for First Time After Week 5 Win
Detroit Lions tight end Brock Wright picked up more than just a touchdown in the team’s Week 5 victory over the Cincinnati Bengals. The NFL announced Saturday that Wright was fined $11,883 for unnecessary roughness, his first fine since joining the league.
The infraction stemmed from a fourth-quarter play where Wright appeared to make contact with Bengals pass rusher Trey Hendrickson’s leg just before a sack on Jared Goff. No flag was thrown during the game, but the league office took notice after reviewing the tape. There’s been no update yet on whether Wright will appeal the fine.
The play came during the Lions’ 37-24 win, a game where Wright had already made his mark on the scoreboard. He caught a three-yard touchdown pass from David Montgomery in the second quarter, helping Detroit jump out to a 14-0 lead.

Wright, who joined the Lions in 2021, has mostly kept it clean between the whistles. He’s committed only a handful of penalties in his career, mostly false starts, and this fine marks the first disciplinary action on his record.
Through five games this season, Wright has five receptions for 37 yards and two touchdowns, already trending toward a career-best year. If he keeps up this pace, he’ll easily surpass last season’s totals and could carve out a steady red zone role behind Sam LaPorta.
In Detroit, where toughness is part of the job description, a fine like this might almost feel like a rite of passage. Still, $11,883 is a pricey reminder that even accidental kicks don’t go unnoticed by Park Avenue.
