The Detroit Lions have announced a roster change, signing cornerback Essang Bassey while waiving linebacker DaRon Gilbert due to injury.
DaRon Gilbert Waived After Practice Injury
Gilbert sustained an injury during practice on Sunday. The undrafted linebacker from Northern Illinois was tied for the team lead in tackles during the Lions’ preseason opener. Unfortunately, the injury has forced the Lions to make a tough decision regarding his future with the team.
Essang Bassey Brings Experience to the Lions’ Secondary
Bassey, 26, brings four years of NFL experience to the Lions, having played previously with the Denver Broncos and Los Angeles Chargers. He has appeared in 43 career games, starting five and recording one interception. During his college career at Wake Forest, he amassed 228 total tackles, five interceptions, and 45 passes defensed.
Detroit Lions Bolster Roster Amid Injury Challenges
The team is also dealing with additional challenges in the secondary, as cornerbacks Terrion Arnold and Ennis Rakestraw left practice early with injuries. Emmanuel Moseley has already been ruled out for an extended period due to a torn pec suffered during joint practices against the New York Giants.
