According to Aaron Wilson, the Detroit Lions have announced the elevation of wide receivers Tim Patrick and Allen Robinson from the practice squad for their Week 3 matchup against the Arizona Cardinals. The moves are aimed at providing more depth to the Lions’ offense as they prepare for a crucial early-season game.
Tim Patrick’s Increasing Role For Detroit Lions
Tim Patrick made his Lions debut in last week’s 20-16 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, recording two catches for 12 yards. This was his first NFL appearance since 2021 after missing the last two seasons due to injury. Sunday will mark Patrick’s second elevation of the season, with the Lions allowed one more before needing to sign him to the active roster to keep him.
According to Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press, head coach Dan Campbell is confident in Patrick’s abilities and expects him to contribute more in the upcoming game against Arizona. “If somebody wants to poach (him off the practice squad), then we have a decision to make,” Campbell said. “But until then, the plan would be to elevate and use him. We expect to use him more this week. He’s had a good week at practice. I like him, I really do. He fits us just the way he is, the way he works, his attention to detail, and he brings a little something different to us. He’s a big guy. He’s a big target, he’s physical, he’s tough, so I’m glad he’s here.”
Patrick’s size and physicality offer Detroit a unique weapon, and the team is looking forward to seeing how he can contribute to their offensive attack moving forward.
Allen Robinson Returns to Michigan
Alongside Patrick, veteran receiver Allen Robinson has also been elevated from the practice squad for the first time this season. Robinson, 31, has strong Michigan roots, having played high school football at Orchard Lake St. Mary’s before starring at Penn State. He was selected in the second round of the 2014 NFL Draft by the Jacksonville Jaguars. Over the course of his 127-game NFL career, Robinson has accumulated 562 receptions for 7,028 yards and 43 touchdowns. His experience, combined with his familiarity with the Michigan area, makes him a valuable addition to the Lions’ wide receiver group.
Robinson, who has previously played for the Jaguars, Chicago Bears, and Los Angeles Rams, is eager to prove himself and contribute to the Detroit Lions’ offense, particularly as they look to bounce back from their Week 2 loss.
Looking Ahead to Detroit Lions Week 3 Matchup
With both Tim Patrick and Allen Robinson added to the mix, Detroit is aiming to bolster their passing game as they head into their Week 3 contest against the Arizona Cardinals. The additional depth at wide receiver should give quarterback Jared Goff more options as the Detroit Lions look to put up points and secure a win.
As Patrick and Robinson look to make the most of their opportunities, their performance in Sunday’s game could help shape their future roles with the team, including whether they earn permanent spots on the Detroit Lions active roster.
