The Detroit Lions are grappling with a series of injury concerns following Monday’s training camp. In fact, according to a report from Pride of Detroit, several key players were sidelined for Monday’s practice as the team prepares for their upcoming preseason game against the Kansas City Chiefs.
Detroit Lions Key Players Sidelined and Injury Updates
Among those who did not practice were quarterback Hendon Hooker, wide receiver Sam LaPorta, linebacker Malcolm Rodriguez, and defensive linemen Alim McNeill and David Bada. Head coach Dan Campbell confirmed that Bada is “out for the year,” marking a significant blow to the team’s defensive line depth. While Campbell noted that Rodriguez is “improving,” he also confirmed that the linebacker will not be ready to play this weekend.
In addition to these ongoing absences, linebacker DaRon Gilbert was added to the injury list after suffering an injury during practice on Sunday. This prompted the Detroit Lions to sign linebacker Ty Summers as a reinforcement. Meanwhile, the absence of cornerback Carlton Davis remains unexplained, as no update was provided on his status.
Limited Participation and New Injuries
Other players were able to practice but in a limited capacity, including guard Kevin Zeitler, who is dealing with a shoulder injury. However, Campbell offered a positive outlook on Zeitler’s recovery, indicating that he is expected to be back soon. Additionally, Campbell provided an optimistic update on linebacker Malik Jefferson, saying, “There is a chance that Malik’s back in a couple of days.”
Several players sustained injuries during practice, including running back Jahmyr Gibbs and cornerbacks Terrion Arnold and Ennis Rakestraw, who were involved in incidents during one-on-one drills. These injuries add to the growing list of concerns for the Detroit Lions as they approach the preseason game against the Chiefs.
As the Lions prepare for their next game, the increasing number of injuries will be a critical issue to monitor. With several key players sidelined, the team will need to carefully manage their roster and ensure they are ready for the challenges ahead in the regular season.
