The Detroit Lions are reinforcing their roster by signing linebacker Abraham Beauplan and offensive lineman Jamarco Jones as they gear up for the second week of the NFL preseason. These additions come in response to injuries sustained during their preseason opener against the New York Giants.
Addressing Depth on the Offensive Line
Lions offensive tackle Connor Galvin reportedly suffered a torn MCL and will require season-ending surgery, creating an urgent need for additional depth at the tackle position. Jamarco Jones, a versatile lineman with experience at both guard and tackle, has been brought in to fill this gap. Jones, who has appeared in 36 career games, was originally selected in the fifth round by the Seattle Seahawks in 2018.
Though Jones showed promise early in his career, his progress has been hampered by injuries, including a significant high-ankle sprain in his rookie season. After struggling with injuries during his time in Seattle, Jones signed with Tennessee in 2022 but was released during training camp this year following a series of on-field altercations.
Adding Depth at Linebacker with Beauplan
Abraham Beauplan, 24, joins the Lions after spending last season on the Minnesota Vikings’ practice squad. An undrafted player, Beauplan had a strong collegiate career at Marshall, where he recorded 231 tackles, 23 tackles for loss, and 3.5 sacks over three years. His signing helps address injuries at the linebacker position, particularly with Malcolm Rodriguez absent from practice and missing the game against the Giants.
Next Up for Detroit Lions: Preseason Showdown Against the Chiefs
As the Lions continue to build their roster, they will face the Kansas City Chiefs in their second preseason game, scheduled for 4 p.m. on Saturday.
